Obama
I share the general opinion of the country, and to a lesser extent, the world; Mr. Obama has made history, and no matter how well he does in office, the 4th of November, 2008 will be written about in history books (and otherwise) for as long as humanity continues to survive.
I am honestly proud to say I got to live during this paradigm shift of domestic and global politics. I, nor generations to come, will probably ever experience anything on this order of societal significance again; something like this only happens once in the history of an intelligent species. A black man could be elected sometime in the future again, but the impact will be nowhere near as significant as it was this year.
First and foremost, the results of Election 2008 gave hope to the countless people who slowly became more and more disillusioned by this Country’s recent failures and mistakes. The people who were starting to doubt the power of democracy. Sure, thinking simply, it was a change from an era ruled by fear and hate (1984 anybody?), to the start of an era with a fresh outlook on life on Earth in general. And no matter what your political affiliation, you can not deny the significance this election had. But above all that, is the societal impact of these elections.
When you think about it, humanity and its bloody, petty history is meaningless compared to the Universe itself; all we have is our own [limited] knowledge and history. But a victory is a victory, and I believe, humanity has not only won a victory, but has entered into a new age. Sure, there will always be the ultra-conservatives, who for whatever reason, are incapable of accepting change. But they exist, only to magnify the contrast between them and “us”. It is a duality; one can’t exist without the other.
Because of this duality, and as much as I appreciate the events that transpired early this month, I also have fear. Fear for the life and safety of Mr. Obama, and his family. I can’t speak of him him personally, because I do not know him. I can however, say that to accomplish what he did, he is already an extraordinary man. A man that will probably pay the ultimate price, like other extraordinary men did before him.
Putting it bluntly, I fear a JFK II, complete with the assassination of the assassin. I fear, the country as a whole, will be deeply saddened and hurt by the man, men, or otherwise, who conspire, and execute their nefarious plan.
I want to believe these people will look past this pathetically ignorant racial ideology, but I know that is a silly thought. It is once again, the duality. Good and evil. These hypothetical men, if you can even call them men, will be the embodiment of true evil. They will serve no purpose, but to ruin a positive moment in human history, simply for the selfish perpetuation of their old-world, ignorant, conservative, ass-backwards philosophy.
I am not the religious nor the spiritual type, but if I was, I would not only personally pray for Mr. Obama’s safety, but encourage other, good hearted people to as well.
As the saying goes: God speed, Mr. Obama.
